It's Friday, January 17, 5:14pm here, but it's 4:14am for most of you. We have done pretty well adjusting to China time although I feel like I could take a pretty good nap right now.
Our trip here was good with smooth flights. It was definitely a long flight, but it was neat to see that we were flying over the top of the world and then over Siberia. At one point it said that it was -80 degrees outside (at 36,000 feet altitude), whew-that's cold. Our luggage made it safely as well.
During our landing I thought it was extremely foggy, but as soon as we deplaned, we realized that it was thick, thick smog. The air was dense with fume smells and a haze that was thick even inside the airport. We woke this morning to the same blanket of smog.
On our flight from Chicago to Beijing we spent time getting to know one of the families that is coming to get their sweet little girl as well. This morning we also met two other families that are here to pick up their children. So far there are 2 boys and 2 girls from the same orphanage being adopted on Sunday. We spent the day with these other families seeing the Summer Palace and also the Olympic Park.
We ate lunch in a restaurant that was inside an underground mall. The food was really yummy and so far we are enjoying everything we have tried.
We thank you all for your prayers, and we ask that you pray as our hearts are so ready to meet little Emery in less than 48 hours, but we are trying to take in this whole process in the midst of our eagerness to be with her.
