We are back from a family vacation to the mountains of NC. We
had a great time and the kids loved the undivided attention they received and having each day revolve around fun things for them to do. Mike took the day off on Monday but we didn't leave until Tuesday. His day off was filled with errands and putting together bunk beds for Landon's room. Soon enough Landon and Ella will share a room when baby#3 arrives. Landon enjoyed sleeping on the bottom bunk and Ella loved jumping on the trundle and climbing up to the bottom bunk to lay beside her
brother.
As for vacation. The first day we got there we just unpacked, napped and went to dinner with our friend Mark. It was yummy
to have pizza at Mellow Mushroom but the kids were wound up from being in the car a good part of the day and not getting any time to run around outside. Mark was a good sport to put up with the wildness and after the kids finally went to bed we had a nice visit on the patio as a storm rolled in.
Wednesday was a beautiful day. We met some more friends, Dr. Roten, Dana, Graham and Marshall in the morning for a trip up to Grandfather Moutain. Even though it was supposed to be in the 80's that day it was only in the upper 50's and lower 60's on top of the mountain. Silly
me didn't pack any pullovers or warmer clothes so we wrapped the kids up in towels and blankets as we walked around to see the animals
they had. The funniest was the bear that enjoyed regular feedings from visitors. He put on quite the show for us catching each piece of food that was thrown. We also walked across the mile high swinging bridge and even though I have done this before it was a whole new experience taking the kids. Mike held on to Ella with a very tight grip and I walked with Landon in a hurried pace to get out of the wind. We didn't visit there long as it was too cold and windy to hang around.
To warm up we headed back to the resort indoor pool where Graham, Marshall, Landon and
Ella had a blast swimming around. I think they would have all been happy to stay there the rest of the day but we were in need of some lunch and some naps. After the busy morning I was happy to volunteer nap time with the kids while Mike took a short break on the couch. As soon as we woke up we headed back out to visit the Roten family at their farm. It was so nice and a beautiful site for just sitting outside and pondering life. Of course that wasn't what Landon and Ella wanted to do so instead
of pondering we went to hold baby goats, see the mama goats, pet the miniature donkeys, ride horses, view lots of cattle and baby calves and then headed to the creek to throw rocks and play in the
water. We were quite blessed to be able to stay for dinner and enjoy some of their very own beef for dinner. It's the craziest thing how much I crave red meat when I am pregnant but a burger has never tasted as good as when you know it came fresh from the cow a few days before and one that was right there on their farm. After dinner Ella enjoyed her very first ice cream cone which looked very nice with the ketchup she already had on her face. It was a big hit for her and I have bought some cones to keep here at home for a tasty treat. In fact we had one last night but after she had a couple of bites she would set it down on the patio floor until
she was ready for it again. After a time of that I thought it had collected enough dirt that I should retire it for the evening, maybe next time she will eat all of it again.
Landon liked his cone a lot too on the farm and added to the thrill by taking it with him on a wagon ride around the front yard. The views were amazing but he seemed focused on not losing his ice cream.
All of us slept really well that night and were excited about the next day of vacation. I will post later with details on that.
