Happy 40th birthday Mikey!!!!! What a wonderful day for a wonderful man! The kids were probably more thrilled about you having a birthday than you were about turning 40 but that's ok. We had a great time visiting with family on Saturday night. Mike had his mom's (and grandmother's) specialty of brown sugar poundcake with chocolate icing. Ella helped put all 40 candles on the cake and when we were finally done lighting them the room was bright as could be. Landon helped his Dad blow out the candles as we all sang Happy Birthday. Mike was successful in getting all of the candles out without a second breath. I thought afterwards that the smoke alarm may go off but we escaped a visit from the firemen.
Today we had an exciting day with new fishing poles and a visit to the lake with lots of friends. Dinner club was held at an old country store of our friends which we hadn't been to in many, many years. It was a blast from the past and awesome to see again. The kids had so much fun riding bikes in the big empty spaces, blowing bubbles, getting dirty, fishing and playing in the lake. Of course the food was great as always but the friends is the best part. Eli had so much fun trying to do everything the big kids did. He finished his night off by getting a good and close look at the worms - he takes after his sister in his love of worms.

Anyway - I keep telling Mike that 40 is the new 30! He is an awesome guy with a big heart. He is an amazing father and husband. He is a very manly man even if he does fish with a Barbie fishing rod :-). I thank God for him on this day. The day was filled with fun, family and friends and although there were no big presents or surprises there is so much love for my new 40 year old! Love you!
